The festival sermons of Dr. Martin Luther are a part of the Church Postil of Dr. Martin Luther, a collection of his sermons from the early 1520's. The major 2 parts of the four part collection have been translated earlier this century and are available in the 8 volume set from Baker Publishing, translated by Lenker. Lenker gives us the sermons based on the Epistles and Gospels of the historic lectionary appointed for Sunday.
Lenker tells us in his forward that although the sermons of the Postil of Martin Luther were preached early in the Reformation, the Postil was continually worked upon under the supervision of Luther until even the last years of his life. In 1546 it was offered again after being edited by Creutiger and Luther. The translations that are offered here were taken from the 1584 text which was published in Wittenberg.
The Festival Sermons are now published. The CBD Catalog is not quite correct when it adverstizes the Lenker and Klug translations offered by Baker are the complete collection of sermons by Martin Luther! However, now your collection can be complete with this volume of Luther's Festival Sermons from the Church Postils.
Please peruse the links below for a sample. Please note from the Table Of Contents that both the Winter and the Summer sections of the Festival Sermons will be bound into a single volume at considerable cost savings to you!
